X-Ray Interpretation for Mail Screeners:
Audience: Mail Screening X-Ray operators/technicians and all mailroom personnel including managers, supervisors, and operators who may be involved in the x-ray screening process. Note: This course is dedicated to the use of tunnel or cabinet x-ray units in the screening of mail. It does not address the screening of baggage or personnel items at pedestrian checkpoints.

What to Expect: This full day course provides x-ray operators and supervisory personnel with a comprehensive understanding of the capabilities and limitations of x-ray equipment and its application in the screening of incoming letter mail and packages. Students will gain a thorough understanding of the processes needed to properly process and screen large volumes of incoming letter, flat, and parcel mail using a variety of commercial x-ray equipment. The course includes the use of various screening and interpretation techniques designed to enhance the operator's ability to quickly yet accurately screen incoming mail and parcels x-ray images using a variety of screening techniques. This course is specifically designed to provide operators with the tools needed to effectively screening incoming mail and differentiates from those techniques normally used at personnel or baggage checkpoints. The course may be taught as a standalone course or in conjunction with equipment specific operator classes.

Basic Mail Screening Theory for Managers and Supervisors
Audience: Mailroom personnel including facility, mail room and security team managers and/or supervisors.
Length: 4 Hours
What to Expect: Provides basic mail safety and security training for facility, mailroom, and security managers and supervisors. The course is based on the requirements outlined in sections 70-80 of 41 CFR 102-192 and concentrates on risk assessments, threat recognition, threat avoidance, risk mitigation, personnel safety, the use of personal protective equipment including respirators, emergency planning, chemical, biological, radiation, nuclear, and explosive screening theory, accepted emergency response protocols, normal to emergency process transition and reversion considerations, working with external law enforcement and emergency responders/agencies, training, and post event data collection. Students will gain a functional knowledge of the general mail screening process, screening safety, and process application in an active screening environment.

Mail Borne Threat Awareness Training
Audience: Personnel other than mail room employees, who receive, handle, sort, distribute, and/or open letter mail and/or commercial packages. This group includes but is not limited to administrative assistants, clerks, loading dock teams, security personnel, and any employee who handles incoming and interoffice mail/parcels as part of their normal daily routine.
Length: 2 Hours
What to Expect: This lecture based course includes a comprehensive introduction to mail borne threats, personal safety and general security considerations associated with the receipt, handling, and opening of incoming mail, commercial packages, and interoffice mail. This course is provides staff members involved in the processing of incoming mail/parcels and interoffice correspondence with the information they need to safely process incoming mail, handling and safe opening techniques, and general emergency response procedures and considerations.

Audience: All mailroom/security personnel

What to Expect: This comprehensive course covers all aspects of mail screening and from receiving through distribution and is designed to ensure that mailroom and security team personnel are fully aware of potential mail borne threats and their roll in safeguarding facilities and personnel. Designed for experienced and non-experienced personnel, the course provides a mix of highly informative lectures, demonstrations, and active exercises designed to ensure the proper application of threat specific screening and response protocols. Successful students will demonstrate their understanding of the training material through written exams and threat based exercises.
