SoBran Continues Double-Digit Growth in 2006

High-Profile Contracts Drive Biomedical, Supply Chain, Engineering and Mail Sanitation Practices

DAYTON, Ohio (Feb. 5, 2007) — SoBran, Inc. today announced growth of over 23 percent during 2006, making it the company's most successful year to date. Annual revenue for the nearly 20-year-old professional services contractor topped $38 million.

The growth was fueled by rapid advances in SoBran's core practice areas: mail safety, biomedical research support, engineering and supply chain services. Highlights included:

  • Tripling mail sanitation operations under the industry's most advanced mail handling practice. SoBran screens more than 280,000 pieces of mail monthly for the U.S. Army, the Pentagon and other leading federal agencies.
  • Expanding information technology, engineering and technical support through two new task order awards from the U.S. Air Force Software Engineering Division of the Air Logistics Center in Ogden, Utah. This expansion effectively doubled SoBran's workforce for the project.
  • Solidifying SoBran's position as a leader in biomedical research support, with growth to over 350 scientists, technicians, management and administrative personnel supporting nine National Institutes of Health contracts.
  • Increasing staffing for a $41 million contract with the U.S. Navy Naval Air Systems Command in Jacksonville, Fla for extensive supply chain and logistics support to the Naval Aviation Depot. SoBran is one of the area's largest contractors with 140 employees, including staff from subcontractors Lockheed Martin and SI International.

Deep Industry Expertise Sets Tone for Expansion

Fast growth with new and longstanding clients prompted SoBran to hire more than 100 employees this year. The company's staff now numbers 570, including highly trained engineers, scientists, technicians and managers.

“Our government and commercial clients are outsourcing some of their most critical projects,” said Amos Otis, president and CEO of SoBran. “Every day, our teams play critical roles in supporting vital missions, such as preventing infectious disease outbreaks and bioterrorism attacks, and ensuring that critical military assets – like fighter jets – are at the ready.”

Other SoBran milestones for 2006 include:

  • Three separate Navy Seaport Extended (SeaPort-e) contracts, as a teammate with primes APPTIS, Inc., ICI Services, LLC and SI International. This contract vehicle covers all phases of weapon systems acquisition and life cycle support.
  • A Department of Defense subcontract for Radon Program Support for the Oak Ridge National Laboratories, under which SoBran provides radon testing and mitigation services.
  • Several industry awards – including being ranked among the Black Enterprise Top 100 companies in the Industrial/Service category and being named a top federal contractor by the Dayton Business Journal.
